Last spring when we were living in Madrid - but our lives looked pretty different to how they do now, as least job-wise - I did a similar post to the one I'm doing today (check it out here, if you want). Life changes for most people by season, location, job, etc., and we're no exception, so last Tuesday I kept a notebook with me and pulled it out frequently to keep a tab on what my day was looking like.
When we lived in Madrid, we took the metro almost every day. We walked to the grocery store or to a few other places in our neighborhood, but to most places, we took the metro - work, parks, museums, the airport, train stations, etc. We had monthly abonos that allowed us to ride the public transportation in the city as much as we wanted, and we used the metro the most - it doesn't run late or get caught in traffic like buses, and is overall just very dependable and convenient.
It's hard to believe that in two days we're leaving Spain. Maybe for the spring and summer or maybe for...ever. Regardless, the majority of our time spent here wasn't gallivanting around from country to country. We were mostly in Madrid, living our lives, going about our business. In the fall (September till December) that looked a lot like taking TEFL classes, looking for English students, teaching here and there (not as much of the latter as we would have hoped), as well as taking quite a few day trips on the weekends from Madrid. In the winter (January till now), we found more clients and so we mostly filled our days with teaching.
Making: plans for the summer. How can it be?! I've started penciling in a few things here and there but it just feels crazy to be looking at July and August right now.
Cooking: tonight? Nothing! Danny has an interview over dinner so I think I'm scavenging - toast, crackers, cereal - whatever's easy and around the house.
Danny's birthday came in the midst of such transition for us. One week earlier or one week later - whole different story, but that day, that week, it was so crazy. But he was such a champ about it and we really made the best of it and tried to make some fun memories. So here we go, how we spent October 14, 2015 in Madrid, Spain, Danny's 26th birthday!
